Renaissance Project

Renaissance Project For this project, we had to deepen our understanding of a significant person of the Renaissance (rebirth), Protestant Reformation ( break within Western Christianity initiated by Martin Luther, John Calvin, and other early Protestants), or Scientific Revolution ( the arrival of modern science during the early modern period, when developments in mathematics, physics, astronomy, biology (including human anatomy), and chemistry transformed views of society and nature). We had to choose a candidate that we thought should be elected into the Renaissance Hall of Fame. The person we chose, must have lived during those three periods of time (1250-1700) and must have made significant contributions. From this project, I learned a lot about different kinds of people and about their significant contributions they made to the Renaissance, Reformation, or Scientific Revolution. I decided to place this project on my website, because these three periods of time were absolutely fascinating to me.

Monk Simulation

Monk SimulationFor this Simulation (the imitation of the operation of a real-world process), we had to take a vow of silence for two periods straight (about 1 hr. and 30 min). During that amount of time, we had to do what was assigned at each station, like reading, taking notes, and creating illuminated letters. The next day we had to write a narrative paragraph about what the most difficult thing was about living as a benedictine monk. One of the most difficult challenges to do every day would be to create and color illuminated letters. Another thing I found the most challenging was the vow of silence. What I learned from this simulation is that the daily life of a benedictine monk was based on four main vows: poverty, chastity, silence, and obedience. Silence was a vow, because Monks mainly talked to convey necessary information; the point was to get to the point and stick to the point and the capacity for that varies from person to person. I decided to place this activity on my website, because simulations allow you to feel what other people felt and what they had to go through. |

Zheng He's Voyages The picture on the top left shows the routes Zheng He, a Chinese emperor, took while he was on his Seven Grand Voyages. In history class, we had to find background information on Zheng He, then write two well-written sentences about why we should or shouldn't celebrate his 28 year voyages, like we celebrate Christopher Columbus day. As we were researching we found things that happened in his childhood. When he was just 10 years old, his father was killed right in front of him. Then, Zheng He was castrated, taken prisoner, and forced to joined other eunuchs (castrated people) who made up the governmental royal family. It was very challenging, but once you know the basic information it becomes more and more interesting. I decided to place this activity on my website, because it was quite interesting.

Roman Empire Game

Roman Empire GameIn History class we did a simulation on Ancient Rome. First our teacher put people in proverbs like Barbarians, Goths, Kings, etc. After that, all the traders had to give a presentation to the king. They had to try to convince the king to buy their goods so the traders could get as many soldiers as they could, so the Barbarians won't attack them. The Kings decided weather they would take the offer or not. Then the Barbarians had a chance to see if they could attack any of the traders. For a Barbarian to win they had to have more soldiers than the country they were trying to attack. The Barbarians nearly destroyed the Roman empire. The most difficult thing was that we had to make wise decisions. From this activity I learned how to be how to make wise decisions and how to cooperate with others. I decided to put this activity on my website, because after you learn something you should play a game or do a simulation about it because you can understand it more easily.
